Kinder- Mr. Elliott Fontenot, 91, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Kinder.
Mr. Elliott was a retired Iron Worker Superintendent, Locals, 678, 710, and 623. He worked for Deep South Crane and Rigging. Mr. Elliott enjoyed working with iron and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion Post 244 and was State Chaplain for Vietnam Veterans of America. Mr. Elliott was a WW11 Navy veteran that loved putting up flag poles and flags around the community. Most of all, he loved his church and his church family. He was a member of Grace Community Church and he was a minister for United Pentecostal International. He will also be remembered for playing the harmonica and singing in French. Mr. Elliott was very patriotic and spiritual and he will be deeply missed by the community and all that knew and loved him.
He is survived by three children, Mary Alice Fontenot Gray and husband Rev. Melvin B. Gray of Eufaula, OK, Joseph Dudley "Dubby" Fontenot and wife Earline of Kinder, Sarah Angelique Fontenot Davidson and husband Preston of West Monroe; four brothers, Mason Fontenot, Franklin Fontenot, Ermin Fontenot, and Norman "Blackie" Fontenot all of Kinder; 7 grandchildren, David Fontenot, Grechen LaCour, Charlie Davidson, Valerie Campbell, Kevin Gray, Melody Hopkins, and Lori Bratton; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Preceded in death by his wife, Velvarie Fontenot; sister, Ella Petry; brother, Dudley Fontenot.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1PM at Grace Community Church. Rev. T.L. Smith, Rev. A.A, Haymon Jr., Rev. Melvin Gray, Rev. Kevin Cox, and Rev. Rod Nesmith will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Jessie Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Reed Funeral Home of Kinder. Visitation will begin Friday at Reed Funeral Home from 11AM-9PM with an American Legion Taps Presentation at 6PM. Visitation will continue Saturday at Grace Community Church at 8AM until time of service.
