Travis O. Skinner
Sunrise – November 10, 1961 Sunset – October 31, 2021
On November 10, 2021, Travis O. Skinner was born to the late Eleous Skinner and late Jimmie Lee Skinner in Silsbee, TX. He left Silsbee at an early age to return to Louisiana with his parents. Travis accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Bishop OB Pete at Progressive Church of God in Christ in Oberlin, LA. Travis attended Oberlin High School where he graduated in 1980. After graduation, Travis enlisted in the United States National Guard; there he earned awards in sharpshooter and hand grenade. While in the National Guard, he worked for the Railroad where then he found his self-back residing in Texas for several years. After working for the railroad for eighteen plus years, he would return to Louisiana where he hired on at GEO Corrections; a job where he met many great co-workers. After years in corrections, he then moved on to the Allen Parish Police Jury where the workers became like family to him.
Travis found peace of mind in horse riding and his favorite horse Ninney. Travis also loved to attend family gatherings and outdoor cooking’s. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Christ Praise and Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Ruddell Kirklin.
He is preceded in death by his father, Eleous Skinner, his mother Jimmie Lee Skinner, sister Marie Mccain and Wilda Cork.
He leaves behind to cherish him memories: wife of 14 years; Gloria May Skinner, son; Brandon Skinner, Stepdaughters, Bwana (Quincy) Bendel, Jerree May, Kawangelyn Tillis, Ramona May; stepsons, James May, Michael May, Terrell May; granddaughter; Kyeliah Fruge; sisters Ruby (Wesley) Guillory, Katrina (Al) Guidry, Evelyn Fontenot, Brinder (Keith) Fondal; Brothers; Donald Skinner, George Skinner, Cezar Ray Skinner, Patrick (Debra) Skinner, Fredrick Skinner. A host of step grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law that will forever cherish his memories.
Funeral Service will be held at Reed Funeral Home of Kinder at 11 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021, with Pastor Ruddell Kirklin officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Baptist Cemetery in Kinder, LA. under the direction of Reed Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 8 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021, until the time of the service at Reed Funeral Home.
Due to COVID food will be prepared as to-go at Reed Funeral Home.
