My mawmaw lived right next door to Mr Kotch. I've known him all my childhood and am sorry to see that he's passed. My memories are of a gruff but nice man. He was always patient and kind to my mawmaw even when she'd get mad at him for running off the squirrels (she liked to feed the squirrels). I'm not even sure he was the one to do it, but he never seemed to have gotten upset with her fussing no matter. He was always a staple; someone that was always there. I am sorry for your loss.
