Kinder- Ms. Betty Jean Sonnier Nevils, 74, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was a native of Oberlin and a lifelong resident of Kinder.

Ms. Betty owned and operated Kinder Mini Mart for over 20 years. She employed many people in the community and gave many young adults their first job. She also enjoyed her position at Coushatta Casino Resort as a VIP Host for several years. Ms. Betty enjoyed working in her yard alongside her dear friend Beverly Poncho. Many friends and family referred to “Queen B” as their second mom. She had unconditional love for so many. Ms. Betty wanted everyone around her to be happy and loved. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Ms. Betty was one of a kind and she will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

The day of her death, was the same day her husband of 40 years, Thomas Max Nevils passed away 15 years ago. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ketha Sonnier; sister, Latain Lawrence; two nephews, Richard Clyde “Ricky” Lawrence and Brady Wayne Sonnier.  

Survivors include two children, Kimberly Nevils of Kinder and Lane Nevils of Lafayette; brother, Douglas Sonnier and wife Nan of Oberlin; three grandchildren, Blake Manuel, Ketha Christine Manuel, and Megan Manuel; great grandson, Rivers Tramonte.

Funeral service will be Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2PM at Reed Funeral Home of Kinder. Rev. Don Barret will officiate. Burial will follow at Kinder McRill Cemetery. Visitation will begin Sunday from 3PM-9PM and will continue Monday at 8AM until time of service.
