Kinder- Chester J. Lavan, 67, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018. He was a native of Kinder and a resident of Shell Quarter Rd. in Elton. Chester enjoyed fishing, going to auctions, and singing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He received his salvation under Bishop Allen Celestine at Word of Faith Church of Mamou. Chester served as a dedicated and faithfull Deacon for 22 years at Christ Praise Worship Center of Kinder under the leadership of Pastors Rudell and Darla Kirklin. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Chester will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, JoAnn Winston Lavan; five children, Angela South and husband Fred of Kinder, Tina L. James and husband Jasper of Elton , Kennetha Freeman and husband Kevin of Kinder, Elizabeth Harmon and husband Marshall of Kinder, Sharenda Jordan and husband Jermaine of Iowa; six brothers, Paul Lavan of Shepherd, TX, Alfred Lavan of Elton, Elvin Morehead of Lake Charles, Melvin Morehead of CA, Wallace Burns of Kinder, Herbert Lavan of Kinder; sister, Lillian Lavan of Oberlin; 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Chester is preceded in death by his parents, Aussie Sr. and Edna Lavan; sister, Barbara Williams; three brothers, Nelson Lavan, Aussie  Lavan Jr., and Michael Lavan.

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11AM at Christ Praise and Worship Center, 213 N Eighth St. Kinder, La. Pastor Rudell Kirklin will officiate. Burial will follow at Chretien Cemetery in Elton. Visitation will begin Friday, August 31, 2018 at Reed Funeral Home of Kinder from 6PM-9PM. Visitation will continue Saturday at Christ Praise and Worship Center of Kinder  from 9AM until time of service.
