Obituary of Edward Fontenot
Mr. Edward H. Fontenot
Edward H. Fontenot, 88, of Kinder died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in his home.
Mr. Fontenot, a native of Kinder, was born August 29, 1923. He was a graduate of Kinder High School after which he served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war he returned to Kinder and married his high school sweetheart, Ila Belle LaBuff.
Mr. Fontenot was a third-generation farmer who raised rice, clover, soybeans and cattle on the family farm. An active member of the Louisiana Farm Bureau Federation for more than fifty years, he served as treasurer and president of the Allen Parish Farm Bureau, was a member of the state rice advisory committee and served multiple terms on the state board of directors. Mr. Fontenot also received gubernatorial appointments to the Louisiana Rice Research Board and served on the boards of the Allen Parish Fair Association and Kinder Rice Drier and was a member of the Allen Parish Rice Growers Association.
Mr. Fontenot was a past-member of the Beauregard Electric Co-op nominating committee and served on the co-op's board of directors for many years.
He was a member of Kinder Bible Church where he served as deacon, trustee, and church treasurer. He also served on the Camp Pearl Ministries' Board of Regents for many years.
Mr. Fontenot is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ila Belle LaBuff Fontenot; daughter Wileen Brumley of Kinder; son Robert (Bob) Fontenot and wife Emily of Frankston, TX; son Drew Fontenot and wife Juanita of Kinder; daughter Marietta (Mary) Jemison and husband Randy of Kinder; daughter Wendy Atkinson and husband Mark of Baton Rouge. He is also survived by his two sisters, Effie Jones and Bernice Savant of Kinder; 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Mr. Fontenot was preceded in death by his parents Roman and Mary Fontenot and one brother, Theo Fontenot of Kinder.
