Hazel “Nell” Prater

Kinder- Hazel “Nell” Prater, 87, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017. She was a resident of Kinder.

Ms. Nell owned Nell’s Café for many years and a Domino Hall for many years both located downtown Ryan St. in Lake Charles. She also worked at the Credit Bureau of Lake Charles for 18 years and managed Charleston Hotel in Lake Charles. Ms. Nell owned and operated Piccadilly Pizza in Kinder and owned flea markets in Kinder and Elton. She was also a hostess for the Petroleum Club. Ms. Nell was a Saints fan and she enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with her many friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her son, Robert Bertrand and wife Andrea of Kinder; brother, Sherman Tucker Jones of Hammond; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Elwood Bertrand; husband, Wayne “Abe” Prater; son, Ronnie Bertrand; parents, Obe and Minnie Jones.

Memorial service will be at 11AM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Reed Funeral Home of Kinder. Rev. John Nichols will officiate. Visitation will begin Saturday at 9AM until time of service.
