Kinder- Mr. A. J. Fontenot, 73, passed away November 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of Kinder and a member of the Local 861 out of Lake Charles. A.J. was a correctional officer at Angola Prison, was a police officer for Kinder Police Department, and a Transportation officer for Wackenhut Prison. He was a graduate of LSU Police Academy and a Navy disabled veteran of the Korean Conflict. A.J. will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Fontenot; children, Cherly Fawcett and husband Jeff of Kinder, Jackie Fontenot of Kinder, Jeremy Fontenot and husband Rudy of Lake Charles, Michael Fontenot and wife Michelle of Moss Bluff; two sisters, Doris Deshotel and husband Herman of Kinder, Wanda Bertrand and husband John of Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Lacey, Payton, Jordan, Cody, Cade, Brittany, Mica, Gavin, and Olivia; 7 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his great grandson, Caden; son-in-law, Florencio Valdez III; parents, Howelton “Blacky” and Alice Fontenot.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 10:30AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Green Oak Cemetery. Visitation will begin Monday at Reed Funeral Home from 3PM-9PM with a vigil service at 6PM and a rosary will follow. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8AM until time of service.
