Kinder- Ms. Bernice Fontenot Savant, 87, passed from this life to join Jesus Christ, her Savior, on  Monday, June 5, 2017 after a short , courageous battle surrounded by her loving family.
Bernice was a home-maker for her loving husband of 60 years and her 6 children. She was always busy sewing for her children, quilting, crocheting, knitting, or working in her yard and garden. She enjoyed cooking every Sunday for her family and always had delicious desserts. Her favorite pastime was visiting and drinking coffee with family and friends.
Ms. Bernice served as a faithful member of the choir at Sacred Heart Chapel in Indian Village and at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. She opened her home for Come Lord Jesus gatherings. She was a member of Daughters of St. Philip Neri, Ladies Altar Society, and Red Hats Society. Ms. Bernice will be deeply missed and forever loved by those who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Chris Reon and husband Joe of Iowa, Pat Broussard and husband Burt of Kinder, Traci Kent and husband Reagan of Kinder, Randy Savant and wife Charlene of Kinder, Todd Savant of Kinder; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson .
Preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Savant and her son, Ronnie Savant; two brothers, Theo Fontenot and Ed “Plut” Fontenot and sister, Effie Jones.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11:30AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in Indian Village Cemetery. Visitation will begin Wednesday at Reed Funeral Home from 3PM-9PM with a Vigil service at 6PM and a rosary will follow. Visitation will continue Thursday at 8AM until time of service.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Deannie Sittig for being a loving care-giver for her and Todd. The family wants to acknowledge the wonderful and caring service to Heart of Hospice. A special big thank you to Nurse, Linzy Miller for attending to Bernice, and guiding the family. Also, many thanks to longtime doctor and family friend, Dr. Peggy Allemand.
