Obituary of John Herbert Fontenot

John Herbert Fontenot May 4, 1938 November 24, 2016 Kinder- Mr. John Herbert Fontenot, 78, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of Basile and a lifelong resident of Kinder. Herbert retired from Manuel’s Slaughter House in Basile after working over 50 years. After retirement he worked for Allen Parish Police Jury. Herbert enjoyed making sausage and boudin and loved to cook. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Viola Bushnell Fontenot; three children, Reginald Paul Fontenot, Marshal Jude Fontenot, and Rosemary Fontenot all of Kinder; six grandchildren, Brandon Fontenot, Mariah Fontenot, Marshal Jude Fontenot II, Kristian Fontenot, Cameron Fontenot, and Carmen Sellers; four sisters, Martha Celestine and husband Albert of Lake Charles, Virginia Ledet and husband Vern of Basile, Augustine Mitchell and husband Lionel of Eunice, Margaret Fontenot of Jamaica Queens, New York; 5 sister-in-laws, Leontine LaChapelle of Lake Charles, Joann Simien and husband Albert of Lake Charles, Alicia “Minnie” Bushnell of Kinder, Vickie Fontenot of Beaumont, TX, Elnora Fontenot of Houston, TX; three brother-in-laws, Warren Wiliams of Kinder, Clarence LaChapelle of Lake Charles, Roy Bushnell and wife Jean of Iowa, LA; two Godchildren, Marilyn Simmions and husband Darrell and Stevie Fruge of Eunice. Preceded in death by his son, Elton B. Fontenot; parents, Marshal and Rose Fontenot; two brothers, Joseph Fontenot and Hubert Fontenot; three sisters, Evella Fontenot, Rosemary Roberts, and Virgie Victorian. Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 12PM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
